Public speaking coaching for Mississauga, online.

Presentations, interviews, clear speech and team training with Earl Sky, delivered live over video.

Yes, Vocal Power coaches people in Mississauga. Sessions run live online, one-to-one or for your team, and you start with a free consultation.

There is no Vocal Power classroom in Mississauga, and we would rather tell you that up front than let the page suggest otherwise. In-person sessions are based in the Toronto area. For Mississauga clients, coaching happens over video, which also happens to be where a lot of today's presenting is done: client calls, team meetings, interviews and webinars.

Every session is with Earl Sky. He has spent more than 30 years earning a living with his voice: as a broadcast journalist with CBC Radio and City TV, as an announcer and voice-over artist, and as an instructor in the broadcasting and public speaking programs at Humber College. He has also been a guest lecturer at the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Statistics Canada's 2021 Census counted 717,961 people in Mississauga. Whether you are one of them presenting to a client, leading your first team meeting or preparing for an interview, the work is the same: a clear message, a steady voice, and enough practice that it feels like yours.

Presenting in your second language

Keep your accent. Lose the misunderstandings.

In the 2021 Census, 328,130 Mississauga residents reported a single mother tongue other than English or French. That is slightly more than the 320,640 who reported English alone. A lot of people in this city do their most important speaking at work in a language they learned later.

Earl tells people never to lose their accent, because it makes you unique. The goal is not to sound like someone else. It is to be understood the first time, without repeating yourself, so the room hears your ideas instead of working to decode them.

What clarity coaching covers

  • The handful of sounds that cause misunderstandings, not your whole accent
  • Pace: pausing between phrases so listeners keep up
  • Stress and emphasis, which carry meaning in English more than many people expect
  • Projection and breath, so your voice carries in a meeting room or on a call
  • Confidence in Q&A, when there is no script to lean on

Students and new graduates

Class presentations now. Interviews next.

Mississauga is home to the University of Toronto Mississauga and to Sheridan College's Hazel McCallion Campus, where Sheridan's Pilon School of Business is based. If you are studying at either, or have just graduated, you are probably presenting more than you ever have, and the interviews are coming.

Earl taught in the broadcasting and public speaking programs at Humber College, so working with students is familiar ground. A few one-to-one sessions can cover a class presentation, a capstone pitch or the “tell me about yourself” answer that opens most interviews. Our guide to writing an elevator pitch is a good place to start.

For professionals and teams

Every program, available to Mississauga online.

Private coaching is booked an hour at a time for as many sessions as you want. Team programs are built around the presentations, briefings and meetings your people actually run, and can include an on-site day if that is workable for your location.

New to online coaching? Here is how online public speaking classes work at Vocal Power. Mississauga is part of the wider area covered on the Greater Toronto Area training page.

“Earl's public speaking workshop was a huge success with our clients who are job seekers from diverse backgrounds. Earl engaged the audience with his fun breathing and vocal exercises.”
